White & Lloyd Ltd were commissioned as Structural Engineers for the demolition of a bungalow to make way for two new, high end, family homes.
Due to the presence of large trees all over the site, a soil investigation was undertaken to determine the most appropriate foundation type. As a result, to prevent subsidence, piled foundations were designed so that the loads are dispersed deep into the ground, on suitable soil. The superstructure is primarily of masonry construction, with a number of steel beams picking up walls and floors, where required, and a portal frame providing stability to the fully glazed gable end in one of the properties.
